A live virtual lecture by Sammy Berk of New World Cartographic. On land and in the sea, mysterious creatures often appear in historic cartographic works and the basis for their existence in these maps is almost as unique and varied as the monsters themselves. During this talk, we will examine  the origins of monsters, human oddities, and cannibals found in early maps, and how they were utilized in a persuasive manner. There will be plenty of imagery, tall tales, and connections to the real world that may even send a chill down your spine, just in time for Halloween!

This talk is a webinar that will cost $5 / entry. All proceeds will be donated to the History in Your Hands Foundation. Learn more about HIYHF and their efforts through their website (www.hiyhf.org) or on their Collectible Events landing page.
