Origins of the Earliest Printed Country Maps of France
December 10, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CET
Where did the first printed country maps of France come from? And why are they so different from one another?
For the first time ever, we will look at all the maps appearing between 1477 and 1525 and try to understand why they are what they are. There may still be more questions than answers by the end, but they won’t be the same questions. By the end of this lecture, we will have broken some new ground, made a few unorthodox suggestions, and hopefully opened up a totally neglected area that is cartographically and sociologically just as fascinating as mapping the New World.
This Lecture Will Take Place Thursday, December 10th at 7:00 pm (CET – Paris) or 1:00 pm (EST – New York)
