Intrepid motorists in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s were able to travel along the new Lake Superior International Highway, connecting Duluth, Minnesota to Port Arthur and Fort William in Canada. The route through Minnesota Arrowhead country and the Land of the Nipigon is boldly highlighted in red on this map, along with other automobile roads accessing the interior of “the last great virgin territory within easy reach of millions of citizens of the Central United States.”
Canoe routes, railroads, and Native American reservation borders are also outlined according to the legend in the lower right. Bright illustrations are splashed across the page, reflecting the excellent variety in hunting, fishing, and natural beauty available across the region. The verso of the sheet includes a highway map of the Land of the Nipigon and extensive text praising all the available sights in ‘the Land of Romance.’
